Summary |
---|
Microsoft Teams for Mac will change its name from "Microsoft Teams (work or school)" to "Microsoft Teams" starting in late June 2024. Tenant admins should be aware of the implications of these changes, which include a change in the MacOS .app file name. MDM implementations that periodically check whether Microsoft Teams is installed on a given Mac device may need to update their .app name check to prevent duplicate versions of the app. |

Transition timeline for name change to Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams (work or school) users will automatically receive an update that changes the name of the app from Microsoft Teams (work or school) to Microsoft Teams starting in April 2024. What you need to do to prepare: Important Mobile Device Management (MDM) scenarios these changes can impact If you have an MDM implementation that periodically checks whether Microsoft Teams is installed on a given Mac device in your tenant based on the .app name, and then installs a version of Teams if it isn't present, you may find that devices can have two version of New Teams installed on the device: Microsoft Teams (work or school) and Microsoft Teams. If this happens, it should not require any action to remove the duplicate old Microsoft Teams version. When the old Microsoft Teams (work or school) version next updates, the machine will be left with a single Microsoft Teams version on the device.
You may want to notify your admins about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate. |
