Summary
                Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows will soon support 4K-enabled front-of-room displays, with adjustments to user interface elements for optimal viewing. The feature will be available with Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows 5.0 release for all Teams Rooms licenses. The rollout will begin late April 2024 and complete by late May 2024, with no admin action required. Users with Teams Rooms on Windows devices with 4K displays can remotely set the display resolution and scaling of their displays to native 4K resolution with specific XML settings. However, 4K video/content sharing is not supported.

More Information

Note we have updated the final app version from 4.20 to 5.0. Thank you for your patience.

Coming soon: 4K-enabled front-of-room displays will be natively supported on the Teams Rooms on Windows experience. This feature will be available with Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows 5.0 release for all Teams Rooms licenses.

When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High): We will begin rolling out late April 2024 (previously mid-April) and expect to complete by late May 2024 (previously mid-May).

How this will affect your organization:

User interface elements in Teams Rooms on Windows devices with 4K-enabled front-of-room displays will be adjusted for an optimal viewing experience at native 4K resolution.

If your organization has Teams Rooms on Windows devices with 4K displays, you can remotely set the display resolution and scaling of your displays to native 4K resolution with these XML settings:

<EnableResolutionAndScalingSetting>true</EnableResolutionAndScalingSetting>

<MainFoRDisplay>

<MainFoRDisplayResolution>3840,2160</MainFoRDisplayResolution>

<MainFoRDisplayScaling>100</MainFoRDisplayScaling>

</MainFoRDisplay>

<ExtendedFoRDisplay>

<ExtendedFoRDisplayResolution>3840,2160</ExtendedFoRDisplayResolution>

<ExtendedFoRDisplayScaling>100</ExtendedFoRDisplayScaling>

</ExtendedFoRDisplay>

If you have Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) emulators/minders deployed with your Teams Rooms on Windows devices, you do not have to change anything. Exception: If you want your front-of-room displays to be 4K, make the following adjustments:

  1. Modify your EDID minder to 3840x2160 (or the native resolution of your displays) instead of 1920x1080.
  2. Reconfigure your Teams Room on Windows output to 2160p (4K) now that 4K display resolution is natively supported.

While you no longer need your EDID minders to limit the Teams Rooms on Windows output to 1080p, you might need to retain your EDID minders if you use them to mask displays that disconnect when sleeping (which is known to cause Teams Rooms on Windows devices to behave unexpectedly).

Additional disclosure: 4K video/content sharing is not supported.

What you need to do to prepare:

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required.

After your Teams Rooms on Windows devices are updated to the 5.0 app, you can notify your users about this change and update your training and documentation as appropriate.
